Fast Track - Erin McCarthy

ISBN: 0425243966 (ISBN13: 9780425243961)
Primary language: English
Series: Fast Track #5
Characters: Tuesday Jones, Diesel Lange

As a tribute to her late journalist father, Tuesday Jones is planning a career benefit, auctioning off racing memorabilia and meet-and-greets with drivers. Ex-racing star Diesel Lange has had his own brush with death, and is determined not to waste another minute of his life- especially when he meets Tuesday. He wants nothing more than to shift their romance into high gear, but he knows she's still grieving. Can Diesel do the one thing he could never do on the track and take it slow?

This is the fifth book in the Fast Track series. So far I have loved every one of them and this is no different. In my real life, I couldn’t watch a car race if my life depended on it BLEH! but give me a Fast Track Novel and I’m on the edge of my seat. Firstly, this book was different from the others in the series, whereas it wasn’t situated around the race track.

Diesel (Dan) is an ex car racer, who is unable to drive anymore because of a horrific car accident he was involved in on the track two years ago. He now restores old race cars to mint condition, is very recluse and emotionally closed up. The poor guy has a bunged up knee, and even though he is described as quiet handsome, sadly all I could imagine was an old hobble. He first meets Tuesday at the funeral of her Father and is instantly attracted to her.

Tuesday is the racing world’s gossiper. She writes a blog tracking the everyday lives of all the racers. Basically a big mouth. She is currently overcoming the death of her father and is having trouble dealing with the loss. After meeting Diesel at the funeral she runs into him again at a wedding. Trying to numb her emotions of grief she turns to lots of alcohol. Diesel gives Tuesday a lift home and from there the pair begins to pursue a friendship together. Throughout the novel you watch Tuesday go thru highs and lows, using alcohol as an emotional blocker.

Like all the Fast Track novels, the impending doom that usually happens, doesn’t. These books are more just a story of watching two people with a mutual attraction come together. No massive blows out here people. There was the underlying issues of Tuesday perhaps having a drinking problem which in turn led to alot of arguments between Diesel and her, but even that was dealt with rationally.

Im not saying this book was boring, it wasn’t. I love the Fast Track novel series! The romance was hot! The amount of sex these two had, made me walk funny! And even with Diesels bung knee he manages to have the wicked marathon sex. He always had doubt in his mind that his knee would blow any minute, but it was never a dampener on things. Diesel is even a little bit of a Dominant – not Red Room of Pain Dom – but needs to be in charge. The pair was pretty feisty.

The ending was sudden, but the book needed to wrap up. The book was a good read, and anyone who has read the series would enjoy it. You could read this as a standalone, but there are some characters that would be hard to follow if you did. .

The Chase - Erin McCarthy

Kendall Holbrook is determined to make it to the top, even with the challenge of being a woman on the male-dominated racing circuit. She doesn’t have time for romance- especially not with racing rival Evan Monroe, the man who nearly crushed her dreams years ago. Forced into meeting up with him, Kendall is experiencing all those old feelings again- and she can’t deny that they still have more than enough chemistry to set fire to the track. After getting dropped by his biggest sponsor, Evan is watching his racing season go up in flames. Now, the only replacement available is completely humiliating: a co-sponsorship for his-and-her deodorant with Kendall Holbrook- the girl who once broke his heart. Acting like Kendall doesn’t still get him all hot and bothered is bad enough, but the biggest challenge awaits him on the track- where Evan has to decide if a second chance at love is more important than making it to the finish line

The ChaseTHE CHASE – book four in the Fast Track series, and just as sweet, sexy and romantic as the last three. I thrive on this series.

This time up it was Evan and Kendall’s turn – Even in older brother to Elec whose book we read first in the series. Even is – how else can I put this without sounding like a teenager?? – Cool. He is impulsive, amazing, has a body to die for and the biggest romantic. Kendall is the first female stock car racer ever – the poor thing is living in a man’s world. She is a cute little blonde tomboy, insecure but a wild cat in the sack.

Even and Kendall has quite the history. When they were teenagers they fell hard and fast for one another. Even was all ready to propose to her when abruptly they broke up and didn’t speak for 10 years. Fast forward 10 years later and the pair are still moping around the track and holding on to old baggage. When a close friend of Kendall’s decides, enough is enough – she sets the two of them up to talk it out. Eventually the two realize that it was a case of simple miscommunication which fuels the reigniting of the old flame.

The two characters were unbelievably hot for each other. They were honestly like teenagers, a moth to a flame, a bee to honey – they couldn’t keep their hands off each other. There was outdoors sex, indoor sex, bath sex – you name it, these two nymphos were doing it.
There is of course towards to end, a stick thrown into the bunch, the bomb gets thrown – I can’t say that it was well done though.

This ‘bomb’ in particular has already been used in this series and I would have liked something a little bit more original. Also I would have liked it to have been ‘solved’ rather than left the way it was.

Dare I say that I liked The Chase better than brother Elecs book? It is a great read with everything thrown in. I was sorry to see this story come to an end. I am hanging by a tether waiting for Eve’s book and next up, Tuesdays.

Happy reading
