Please read on for our interview with Jamie. Also, Elena and Rhondas review of Beautiful Disaster along with our, blog sponsored GIVEAWAY!

Without further ado – I present Jamie McGuire.

Interview:
(Sam)

S- What I loved about Beautiful Disaster is how you fell into the category of
a more mature than a Young Adult book, but not quite into the category of raunchy adulthood. It was a mixture of perfect. Did you set an age group to target or had a specific genre in mind when writing this book?

No, I just wrote something that was fun for me. Not all adulthood intimacy is raunchy, and not all young adult relationships are prude. I like to live in the gray area, so I suppose my books follow along those lines.

S- Will we get to see a story for all of Travis’s brothers?

Right now, Trent’s story is in the queue. I would love to see an entire Beautiful series of novels. We’ll see. ;)

S- Is there anyone who you can picture to play the perfect Travis and Abby in real life?

I never see the faces of my characters as I’m writing, only their essence (sounds weird, but it’s true). I have a vague idea of their physical attributes, and those are usual a mixture of celebrities or friends. For Travis, I saw David Beckham, Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa. For Abby, it was always Lauren Conrad.

(Elena)

E- Travis and Abby went through many tough situations in Beautiful Disaster, but ended just perfect with their HEA. Will the next book tease and torture us readers? I'm not sure how much heartache I can take, but I'll take the teasing any day! Lol!

If you mean Travis’ POV, I’m very excited to write this, because there is so much going on inside Travis that the reader can’t see because BD is from Abby’s POV. There are times when they aren’t together, or the conversations with Shepley Travis has that I can’t wait to write. The conflicts can’t change because in essence the story is BD, but Travis’ POV will bring a new dynamic to the story.

As far as Trent’s story, he is even more volatile than Travis, with even less filter, so it will be just as intense, if not more.

E-Can you give a sneak peak on what your plans are for the next book? Will there be mini Travis' to look forward too? Just Kidding! I'm waiting in anticipation for your next novel, I'll hold off on the second question.

I can tell you that Travis’ Beautiful book will have an epilogue that will give you a fantastic glimpse into Travis and Abby’s future.

(Rhonda)

R- Travis is such an intense character, he's intense in everything he does whether it's fighting, protecting, or giving his heart. Yet he has a humorous and very sweet side. What is your inspiration for his character?

I just thought of a typical fictional bad boy and put a good old-fashioned McGuire twist on it. I tend to be that way myself, and I tend to react more to characters in movies and books that are the same way, so that is the way I wrote him. Who doesn’t love a stand in the rain, fall on his knees, yell at you before he kisses you passionately man?

R- I liked your idea of Abby's background, and I loved the poker scene with Travis's family. What gave you the idea to make this aspect part of Abby's story?

The ideas for twists in my books usually come about a third of the way into writing the story. I like bad ass chicks, and I wanted to bring that to the table when writing Abby.
Professional poker is primarily a man’s game, and the premise of women excelling in any male-dominated category is exciting to me. Her poker background just fit right along with the bet that landed her in Travis’ apartment in the first place, so I was thrilled when I popped into my brain.

REVIEW:

The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend America, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the charming college co-ed. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his charms, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’ apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match

Elena & Rhonda's Joint Review

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
YA, Contemporary Romance

Bitter Sweet Love!

Rhonda: This book was simply wonderful!!! Not since Perfect Chemistry has a Young Adult book captured my attention this way. On a whim I opened this book up to finally read it, and WOW, I was hooked from the opening pages. This was such an emotional journey of ups and downs, and I was constantly on edge waiting for that detrimental moment when everything was truly going to go up in flames.

Elena: That is so true Rhonda! I'm a huge "Funtes Brothers" Fan, so I had to jump on Rhonda's wagon and read this novel.Especially when she was teasing me on how good the book is. Lol!! She did not disappoint with this Rec. It's PERFECTION! Exactly what I like to read in a YA novel.

Rhonda: Abby Abernathy is running from her past in every way, from her parentage, to who she is. She and her best friend America run off to Eastern University, where she can start fresh. And almost immediately she runs straight into Travis Maddox, who smacks of everything she’s running from. Abby already knows the scoop on Travis and what a ho dog he is. Travis is a bad boy in every sense, he’s doesn’t hide what he is, and has no shame… at all!!! He fights in a traveling fight ring called The Circle where bets are made, and this is how he makes his living.

Elena: This couple will leave your draw dropping with their confusing relationship. Abby sees right through Travis and knows the real man he is and always will be. She promises herself not to fall for his charms. But who can't? Rhonda and I gushed over his nickname for Abby, "Pigeon" That says a whole lot. Lol!! Travis is an irresistible cutie pie! Travis isn't used to the hard-to get chicks, he's more of a chick magnet, no one refuses him. Except, now he's met his challenge, Abby. Abby changes Travis in so many ways, but at times she's too dumb to realize she's truly special to him.

Rhonda: I agree Elena, Travis and Abby are completely dysfunctional, but so perfect together. They had my emotions in a state of chaos all the time, they had my heart breaking on several occasions for each other. I was angry with both of them on several occasions but my heart just kept rooting for them to finally get their act together even when there was one obstacle after another constantly being thrown in their way, and at times they were their own worst enemy.

Elena: Friendships, Heartaches, Tears, Love, Devotion, you name it,this book will throw it at you in such a manner you'll have a Love / Hate relationship with the characters and enjoy the plot of the story just because it made your toes curl.

Rhonda: You are so right Elena, there were times when I didn't think my heart could take anymore, but I was so in love with the story and characters that I had to keep going because I just had to know what was going to happen. Jamie McGuire knocked this one out of the park! One of the best YA novels I've ever read, and I must give a shout out to the secondary characters, Shep and America. These two were so much fun and I think they gave the story a good balance.

Elena: Trust me,you don't know what you're missing till you've read the novel and realize you can't bookmark your page in fear you'll miss what's gonna happen next. It'll suck you in and spit you out feeling whole. I Loved It!

Great interview and joint review! Thanks for adding another book to my TBR list:)

I love that the author lives in "gray area" when it comes to adulthood intimacy and YA. I nice to see a story without all of the raunchiness and prudishness.
