Highlander Reborn by Laura Hunsaker

Highlander Reborn begins in Scotland, many centuries ago, where a blacksmith fights for his life and his people. His life is forever changed when Amalia, one of the Nightkind, makes the choice to save his life. But first, he has to die...

1304…
After Nevin MacLachlan’s wife was killed by a vampire, he made it his mission to hunt them all down. But one late Highland night, in a battle he couldn’t win, one of the Nightkind ripped open his throat. With his blood draining onto the grass, the last thing Nevin sees isn’t a white light; it’s the dark of night closing in on him.

Amalia has been enamored with the blacksmith ever since he first held a stake to her heart. Watching him die was unacceptable. Will he ever forgive her for turning him into what he hates most?

Nevin has lived his life alone for a reason. When Amalia walks back into his life seven centuries later asking for help, he wants nothing more but to turn his back to her. But something about her still calls to him.

Some of the Nightkind in Amalia’s seethe have been killed. It’s up to her to find Nevin and ask for his help. But how can she show Nevin that she isn’t the monster he thinks she is?

Rhonda's Review:
"I breathe, I smell you. I eat, I taste you. I think, it's about you. I fuck, and all I want is you."

Laura Hunsaker took two of the subjects she loves most, Highlanders, and PNR and melded them together in one terrific short story.  I loved reading this story and seeing how Laura has grown into her voice, and honed her writing skills.  I was surprised at how complete the story was for a shorty too.

I enjoyed both H/h in this story.  Nevin is all sexy alpha male, and Amalia is a strong heroine, I like to read strong heroines, nothing whiney going on here.  There were times I thought Amalia might be tougher, but Nevin prevailed.   Great job Laura!!

Highly recommended to those looking for a quick satisfying read.

"Small Press Treasures" Blog Hop

Over the course of the past year, the ladies here at S,E,R’s have had the pleasure of reading some really awesome books by some super fabulous authors. And to our surprise,a lot of these books came from Small press and independent authors.Well it comes as no surprise to us now that an incredible book can be found beyond the major publishers. So  for the next week we are very excited to put the spotlight on these authors who have commanded our attention, made us take notice, and turned us into a bunch of squealing  fan girls awaiting their next book! (These authors are mentioned in no particular order)

The path that was laid out before us started with a Sassy, snarky empath named Piper Anast. Rachel Firasek took us on her journey with Piper and her unique crime fighting skills along with the sexy Slade, and left us clamoring for the next book.  Firasek also introduced us to her creative Curse of the Phoenix series and gave us a  new world, and characters to love.
As our journey into the unknown continued we discovered  Mrs. E.L. James who brought us the lusty, naughty love story between Ana Steele, Christian Grey and his “fifty shades of fucked up“.  Fifty ruled our thoughts to the point it was hard to wrap our minds around the next books on our TBR.
Mrs. Carolyn Crane….. How fantastic is this author who took us into an awesome Urban Fantasy world and gave us a unique story with Justine Jones a hypochondriac who learns to use her hypochondria to work for her instead of against her, with the help of the sexy Packard.  Crane gives us a colorful cast of characters to love, and the wait for Head Rush was exhausting, but well worth it!
Along the way, we happened to come across a  book by Debra Anastasia called Poughkeepsie.WOW!! We could go on for days about this fabulous lady who tells us a heartwarming story of love, courage, heartbreak, loyalty, and self discovery where a young lady falls in love with a homeless man. Mrs. Anastasia’s story is full of some of the funniest most amazing characters, it has left us in dire need of the next story, as well as made our top favorite shelf! She also tells us a story in Crushed Seraphim where good and evil collide and find a love worth sacrificing for, and the devil has never been so sexy!!
J.M. Darhower….. “Sempre”!  This book was an amazing, crazy terrific ride! Darhower took a cause she believes in and centered her story around it, incorporated the Italian Mafia, and the outcome was  SIMPLY FANTASTIC! With a cast of characters that will steal your heart and leave you wanting more, Darhower landed on the top shelf too!
J.A. Saare swept us off to New York with the awesome, outspoken necromancer Rhiannon Murphy, and the super sexy vampire Disco in her PNR novel, Dead Undead and Somewhere in Between.  After leaving us out on that cliff, we were chomping at the bit for the next book. Saare delivered a wild crazy ride with The Renfield Syndrome that did not disappoint!  After throwing us 100 years in to the future and  hanging us out on that cliff again, we are super excited that the next book will be coming soon.
Diving into the world of BDSM Novels,  we found Kallypso Masters new “Rescue Me” series, to be all kinds of toe curling yummy. Love her writing style, which is simply beautiful, and thus makes her one of our most anticipated authors. We love Kally, and can’t wait for the upcoming releases!
To our Surprise, author C.J. Roberts took us to a dark place in Captive in the Dark, her debut full length novel where Livvy is abducted to be used as a pawn in Gabe’s quest for vengeance.  Roberts is an author to watch,  this lady can seriously write! Her sequel Seduced in the Dark, lands on our most anticipated list for 2012.
Laura Hunsaker took us on a time travel adventure with super sexy highlander in Highland Destiny. This was a fast paced, hard to put down novel.  If you enjoy time travel, and historical fiction, you’ll enjoy this one!
Some of our other favorite authors who have brought Greek mythology to the table, and a little PNR is Laura Kaye, her new series Hearts of the Anemoi introduced us to a new series featuring a different tale of Greek Mythology, and Owen Winters will certainly make you lick your lips, and ask for more.Another great author that brings the Greek mythology to the table is Lisa Beth Darling, and her “Of War” series. Darling’s stories are dark, mysterious, and challenging. She will keep you turning the pages, and the stories will stay with you for quite some time. Next, Rosalie Lario, her stories are full of twists and turns, and lots of demonic fun!

Laura Hunsaker Blog Spot & Giveaway!

Welcoming....

Laura Hunsaker
Today Laurie, has agreed to come and take over the blog for a little bit. But first I wanted to tell everyone about Laurie. I met Laurie through Goodreads before her first book – Highland Destiny – was released. We would muck about laughing at our kids and how ridiculous they could be. I discovered just how beautiful a person she really was.  I held off reading Highland Destiny out of fear. What if I didn’t like it? Thankfully after growing a pair, I manned up and read it. It was awesome – and I maintained a friend LOL! Laurie and I now Skype when we have time and I love that I knew her before her new found fame hit. I hope that you all enjoy what Laurie has to say and if you haven’t already, go out there and buy Highland Destiny, or better yet – enter our giveaway at the bottom to win a copy!

Prologue
She looked across the room of dancing guests and swirling colors, and stared into the cold, hard eyes of her betrothed. This was undoubtedly the most terrifying moment of her entire life. Her death was imminent, and unstoppable. And she knew. She knew that it would not be enough. Her death would not stop the pain and destruction that she’d so desperately fought to end. Her hopes had crashed the instant she had stared into those flat eyes. There was no hate, or anger, like she’d been expecting; they were just empty. And it scared her. But she refused to let the fear weaken her; she would meet her death with a stoicism she’d never dreamed she possessed. Before she could stop them, her fingers fluttered to her churning stomach betraying her nerves, but she straightened her spine and dropped her hand. With a careful expression of boredom, she walked forward, and sat down next to the man she’d agreed to marry, the man who would kill her by midnight. And she prayed without much hope that her death would be enough.

Thanks for having me here, guys!  For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Laura Hunsaker, and I write Scottish Time Travel Romances.  My first book Highland Destiny is about a 21st century girl from Vegas, being dragged through time to Scotland, in the year 1792.  Big culture shock, right?  Well, I’ve been hard at work for months working on my next in the series when these two voices wouldn’t stop chatting in my head.  It got annoying.  Finally I sat down and wrote out a few of the things they said.  Yeah, those few things became about 10,000 words.  I’m almost to 20,000 words now and the end is in sight.  Hooray!  But I wanted to tell you a bit about my novella Highland Games.

Piper Grant is a California surfer girl.  She surfs all the time, barely holding down a part-time job at the library because the only time she ever feels at peace is on the waves.  Her bff is getting ready to go to Scotland for vacation, when her mom gets sick.  So Piper takes her place, and heads off to the Highland Games.  But Piper never in a million years expects to meet a real Highland Warrior.  She figured it would be more re-enactors than anything authentic.  But then she meets Malcolm.  He says he’s from the 1700s and wants her to go back with him.  Piper isn’t buying his brand of crazy, so Colm takes her with him.  This novella is a bit lighter than Highland Destiny and it’s a wee bit more fun.  Colm is such a cheeky guy it’s hard not to like him, and Piper may not actually be a 21st century lass after all.  You’ll have to read to find out whether she’ll stay with him, or go back to her old life of sun sand and surf.

Highland Games, expected out early 2012
