Zombie Apocalypse ~ What nightmares are made of…
Have you ever had one of those dreams or nightmares that won’t let go of you? I had this scary wacky dream about zombies last night. It woke me up at 0230 from a dead sleep. It was the type that made it really hard to close my eyes again. I got up made sure the alarm was on and checked on the kids. I did fall back to sleep, but damn if that dream didn’t start again where it left off. That never happens when I want it too (hot man on the beach, ahem). No, never then. I woke up two more times after that. What was my subconscious trying to tell me? Apparently, it wanted me to know something or make a decision about something. But, really-- Zombies?
I was working on an interview prior to going to bed last night. The last question was-- what 3 things would you take with you to survive a Zombie Apocalypse? Apparently, my brain took that quite literally and dumped me in the middle of one. The power of suggestion – I love it.
I have a creative mind, thus the very reason I’m a writer. Sometimes my dreams help me flesh out a character, scene or plot line. Yes, I do have undead in my Key to the Cursed series, they’re called revens, cursed human souls. The zombies in my dream were high functioning and cunning. They were talking to me, which made it even scarier. A zombie that can outsmart you is not a good thing. They are much easier to handle when they are dull-minded flesh eaters, easy to kill and can’t sneak up on you with their shuffling slow gate.
I know that zombies are supposed to reflect our psychological fear of losing control—becoming mindless and unable to control our own destinies. Boy, that’s deep. LOL. In my dream my fear wasn’t about becoming “infected” but what these creatures could take from me – my loved ones, my supplies, my shelter. The fear of not being able to defend what was mine.
This revelation started me thinking about Kendra in Soul Awakened. She’s a petite little thing that has been protected her whole life. Her fears would not be much different than my own. She doesn’t have the physical strength like her sisters to fight off the revens. She has already lost her father to the curse. How can she defend what she holds dear?
My dream had the answer. It’s less about physical strength to ward off zombies. It’s intelligence which Kendra has an abundance. Fear is a good thing – it is a basic instinct that keeps us alive. Not unlike ourselves, characters in a novel need to be fearful of something. It’s this fear that makes them believable and real to us.
So, zombies – BEWARE!
So, in thanks for tolerating my psychological ramblings, I’m giving away an ebook copy of Soul Reborn, 1st book in the Key to the Cursed series. I want to thank Sam, Elena, and Rhonda (awesome ladies) for having me over to visit again. If you get a chance, check out Elena’s reviews of Soul Reborn and Soul Awakened. Hopefully, my revens won’t give you nightmares.
How to enter: Ever have a crazy dream or nightmare? If you don’t feel comfortable sharing, just tell me what 3 things you would take with you to survive a Zombie Apocalypse?
Oh, I almost forgot to mention, I have two huge giveaways going on for Soul Awakened’s release: Soul Awakened’s Book Tour Kindle Fire HD giveaway and 3-Goddess Book Release Kindle Paperwhite giveaway.

Elena's Review:

"The Carrigan sisters were the first step to their freedom.Light and darkness.Life and death brought together, the best of both worlds."

Jean Murray, has written another wonderful addition to her "Key to the Cursed series"This is the story of,Bakari and Kendra. These two characters are written brilliantly!  I immediately fell in love with these two, Kendra is just too cute with her light, sweet, fun personality, and her quiet, yet determined attitude to make things right.Loved her relations with Bakari.I  knew right away her decision was made and there was no other man she could fall "in" love with. Jean did such a fantastic job with Kendra. I really loved reading about her.   And Bakari was as expected, with his brooding, selfless, alpha male self, and his  inner conflict in regards to Kendra, it was impressive, but seriosly, who was he fooling? Certainly not me.Lolz! I enjoyed the exchanges between them early in the story which made me really root for these two.Bakari's brother Bomani can't touch what they have :P. Jeans' writing is just beautiful, almost atmospheric.

I fell for Bomani and his character and feel sad for him.  He’s such a good guy and hardly wait for his book with  with a heroine just as kind as him :)

There's much more to the story, if you read the first novel in the series and enjoyed it, then without a doubt you will love this novel :)

Note to author: You're a tease!!! Lol! You had me when Kendra had to choose between males, and now I'm afraid that Kit won't end up with Kamen. You're just wicked! Hopefully my assumptions about where this series is going will be in my favor.....hahaha!

Jean Murray-Guest Spot!

Today we are very pleased to welcome Jean Murray, to our blog. Jean is the very talented author of the “Soul Reborn” series, and we have been lucky enough to have her happily join us on our blog today. So without further ado, I give you....

Jean Murray.

Dirty little secrets….
I re-tweeted a quote the other day that I think is so true…

We all have three faces: the one we show to the public, the one we show to our family/friends and the one we keep secret.  Well,it wouldn’t be much fun blogging about how everyone else sees you, right? Okay, maybe, but it’s those dirty little secrets we keep hidden that make things interesting. Not only for us but the characters we read about in novels.

Whether the novel is written in first or third person, the author gives you an inside kaleidoscope of the hero’s or heroine’s soul. None of the other characters in the book can see this dark place but you,the reader.  Secrets he or she will reveal only to you.

This secret place they keep hidden influences their behavior and reaction towards others.  Long suppressed memories, trauma or sinfully guilty pleasures that the hero/heroine feels are outside the social norm and/or are uncomfortable revealing -- even to those they trust.  As readers, we have the inside ticket to their wants, desires and not so nice thoughts. It makes for a wickedly delicious hero, heroine or villain.

This is what I love about my Underworld gods in the Key to the Cursed Series. In Egyptian Mythos the Underworld gods are benevolent—mostly. The other half, well, let’s just say it’s dark and dangerous.Despite their good intentions, their cursed other-half craves things beyond the normal. They do their best to control it, but of course the heroines test their resolve. They consume, but what they give back will make your heart stutter.

So what is Asar’s dirty little secret?  Or should I say secrets?

Asar is the God of the Underworld in Soul Reborn. Despite him being a god, he’s male and he’s soulless.Okay, not that those two attributes go together—well maybe. LOL! His dirty little secret invited the wrong goddess into his life and into his bed. Needless to say the bitch stole his soul, leaving him with a dark shell of hatred and vengeance.Does he tell Lilly about this secret? Hell, no. Does she find out? Hell, yeah!!! But don’t let Lilly fool you,she has her own secrets.*Duct tape over mouth* I’ll never sell another sister out.

At some point in the book, these secrets come to the surface and make great conflict. Will the hero or heroine accept them for who and what they really are? As a reader and writer, I start rooting for the characters to make the right choice, put their neck out there and let the chips fall where they may. Because if we truly love someone,we accept all of them—the good, the bad and the dirty little secrets.
What is your dirty little secret? Or your friends, ahem…Share if you dare, no judgments will be weighed here. Or is there another character’s dirty little secret you wish to share?

I want to thank Sam, Elena, and Rhonda for having me over for a visit. If you haven’t seen Elena’s review of Soul Reborn, check it out HERE.

Elena's Thoughts:

Many possibilities....

Talk about a load of Suspense! This novel was quick paced and engaging. Who would've known one story could carry so much depth. The paranormal aspect of the story was over the top A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! The characters have strong loyal connections to one another. (Which I find really important in a story.) That being said. This book had me in control, whenever I set the book down, my thoughts were running about "what's going to happen next".

The 3 Carrigan sisters are in for a wild ride they never expected. As humans, they were brought up to be Huntresses. As their story progresses, their involvement with the Demi-Gods play a huge role.

The Demi-Gods, claim the humans are responsible for unleashing the curse when they unearthed a tomb and released a violent goddess from her prison.

Both the Hero and Herione were complete opposites, Lilly being a human (who despises any supernatural being) and Asar being a Demi-God (who hates humans) Clashed in all the right ways. Who were they fooling? Not me! Ha! They were two stubborn souls, but a match well made. I loved their connection. Asar is a sexy Alpha Hero and Lily is a kick-a** Herione, just how I like my characters.

When all is said and done. There's a story behind every story. Like I've already mentioned,a load gets thrown at you left and right. I honestly don't think I had the time to breath. Lol! It was just that good!

I can't wait for the next novels to be released. I'm crossing my fingers that there will be 2 more stories, with these wicked sisters. Lily had her HEA, now Kit and Kendra need one. I can't wait to see which Demi-God they make quiver and bring to their knees with love for them. I'm excited!
