Contemporary Military Romance
From the war-torn streets of Baghdad to the bittersweet comforts of the home front, two wounded hearts navigate the battlefield of coming home from war in this explosive eBook original from newcomer Jessica Scott.
Keeping his men alive is all that matters to Sergeant First Class Shane Garrison. But meeting Jen St. James the night before his latest deployment makes Shane wonder if there’s more to life than war. He leaves for Iraq remembering a single kiss with a woman he’ll never see again—until a near fatal attack lands him back at home and in her care.
Jen has survived her own brush with death and endured its scars. And yet there’s a fire in Shane that makes Jen forget all about her past. He may be her patient, but when this warrior looks her in the eyes, she feels—for the first time in a long time—like a woman. Shane is too proud to ask for help, but for Jen, caring for him is more than a duty—it’s a need. And as Jen guides Shane through the fires of healing, she finds something she never expected—her deepest desire.
Grace's Review:
Sergeant
First Class Shane Garrison and Jen St. James meet and share a deep,
meaningful kiss the night before his deployment. He never expected to
see her again. He also never expected his one year deployment to Iraq
to be cut short when he is severely wounded. Now Shane is back home and
faces a long road to recovery. Jen St. James is the nurse right by
Shane's side when he wakes up at the hospital. She's determined to help
him as he recovers, but she has her own issues to deal with, too. As a
breast cancer survivor, Jen continues to struggle even looking at her
own scars. Can the hope and desire that blossomed when they shared
their first kiss turn into anything more?
Because of You was absolutely an excellent read! I jumped right into this story having only read the summary and not knowing anything about the author. It didn't take long for me to be impressed with the author's writing. As I was reading, I kept telling myself that surely the author must have real-life military experience. Even then I did not check, because I was so enthralled with the story! I was not surprised when I reached the end and read that Ms. Scott is a career army officer and an army wife. It shows. This story reflects her knowledge of the military, and her ability to express the intense relationship between soldiers and between soldiers and their spouses with words.
This is not your typical fluffy romance. Although this is a work of fiction, the story seems very realistic and believable. Shane, Jen, and their friends (Laura, Trent, Vic & Nikki) all have to work through some really tough issues. This is a story that is emotional and, at times, heart wrenching and tragic with the romance being a sweet, sexy bonus!
Jessica Scott has gained another fan! I'm very much looking forward to reading the next book, Until There Was You, with expected publication October 8,
2012.
