Tempt Me at Twilight - Lisa Kleypas

All his life, he has held the world at arm’s length…but the sharp, beguiling Poppy demands to be his wife in every way that matters. Still, as desire grows between them, an enemy lurks in the shadows. Now if Harry wants to keep Poppy by his side, he must forge a true union of body and soul, once and for all...

Tempt Me at Twilight (The Hathaways #3)

Tempt Me at Twilight (The Hathaways, #3)This is not your ordinary review people!

I
never imagined being so drawn into historical novels. NEVER.EVER. But Lisa Kleypas has done exactly that. I have been introduced into a world woman are treated different, men are superior and there are a different set of rules for everyone. It has captivated me to say the least.

But this got me thinking about what it really was like 150 years ago. These stories that we all read are all about balls, courting, dresses and chivalry but after taking a deeper look I realized that life for woman (and men) in the 19th century was deplorable.

This is what the women looked like.

No smiling you will notice. Why?? They properly all had horrible teeth, not to mention bad breath. Braces anyone??? NOT HERE PEOPLE!

* Toothpaste wasn't sold in paste form in tubed until late 1890's

*Soap? Only available to the wealthy.

*Did women even shave their legs or underarm?. Dont think so!

*Bathing and indoor plumbing? NOT LIKELY

*A woman wouldn't cut their hair. (My god if the word "style cut" wasn't in my vocabulary I think I would have an aneurism)

*Deodorant - B.O is not good regardless of wether you didnt know any better.

*Them HUGE skirts. Want to exercise, take a jog? NOPE!

*It was written into men and women's wedding vows that a man could demand and take sexual acts at any time he wanted regardless of how the woman felt. (Sorry gals no faking the headache in this era)

I could go on but I wont because Im bound to be bringing everyone down. But If I put all that aside and just enjoy the novels I can look past all the gross stuff and read a truly romantic novel. Where the men are handsome and overly protective of their loved one. Sex is a mutual consent and everyone one is filled with unbound passion.

This novel has that many reviews that im just going to say that I did love Poppy's book. Harry was a bit of a pompous arse for most of the book but of course he reprieved himself to be a perfect man.
Cannot wait for Leo and Catherine's book. That is going to be one exciting book!
