Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they've triumphed over the latest battle, Cat's new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance . . .
With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous "ally"—the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war . . . to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.
First things first, lets get some favourite quotes out of the way shall we?Pg 339 – “Am I the only one who has wood over that little vixen?”- Ian.
Pg 273 – “I know, Im delicious. Nummy...nummy,”- Vlad
Pg 134 – “Premature inflammation,” he replied. “Happens sometimes. Very embarrassing, I don’t like to talk about it.”- Vlad
Pg 82 - “Ask me if I sparkle and Ill kill you where you Stand,”- Bones
I feel like I have had a reunion of sorts after reading this book. Get what I mean? I spent so long reading this series to have it abruptly finish. Now we have been reunited. It was hell for me to watch all my friends read this before me. But Im an individual..pfft..I don’t need to read the same book as everyone else at the same time. But mind you, if you had all waited for me, I wouldn’t have minded.
In this novel, Cat and Bones are ‘vomit in my mouth'happy and married. But with Cat being a full Vampire and have a weird arse appetite for vampire blood she is having some settling in problems with the undead community. This nasty, nasty ghoul has taken it upon himself to use her as a sacrifice to start an all out war between races.
There are only two things that would have made this book better. First – WAY more sex. There was only one little wonsome sex scene. The infamous chapter 21!! It was lengthy – Ill give it that. But after all the hype I read in certain people’s spoilers *cough Ange cough* , I was expecting more, maybe along the lines of a ménage with Vlad. Or just sex with Vlad, period. Gawd I love that Vampire.
Two – WAY more Vlad. Yes he was in it, but Im kinda a Vlad fan and I would love to have seen some nice sexual tension between him and Cat. He has the wittiest lines in the book. I actually stumbled on my treadmill while I was reading and laughed that hard at his ‘premature inflammation’ comment.
I’ll spare the rest of you my boring review and since I don’t like to spoil I will stop with the details here. But in ‘This side of the grave’ we see everything from ghouls, vampires, ghost, illness, and sex and most importantly Bones, Cat, Vlad and Mencheres. Pretty much what we have come to expect, right?
